I find it is important to developer relationship with the student for the tutoring to be successful.

I believe the chat is the least effective method of teaching students who are not highly motivated. There is no relationship between the tutor and the students. Of course, in person is best, but tutoring versus zoom or Google meet would be better than chat. The tutor and the student could see each other and there is voice contact.
